For more than 100 years Vision Loss Resources (VLR) has provided services for those who are visually impaired, blind or deafblind. Clients, caregivers, donors, business partners, volunteers and dedicated staff provide robust support for VLR programming through Community Services, Rehabilitation Services and DeafBlind Services of Minnesota. Contract Production Services is a social enterprise owned by VLR which contributes support to the mission to provide services, skills and support for people with vision loss.
Position Summary
This position supports Community Services and Rehabilitation Services departments. Community Services clients are mostly older adults managing vision loss in varying degrees. Rehabilitation Services clients are predominately working age, 18 years old through retirement. Most Rehabilitation Services clients are referred to VLR from State Services for the Blind (SSB). Vision rehabilitation support is provided in the home or in a classroom/kitchen setting at VLR offices. This staff person will:
- Design and/or modify teaching approaches to accommodate different abilities and learning styles.
- Be knowledgeable of methods of evaluating, diagnosing and classifying learning abilities and progress.
- Plan instruction and deliver rehabilitation, using various motivation techniques to support clients in reaching individual goals.
- Review and improve VLR training and rehabilitation protocol and curriculum to stay current with best practices.
Position Qualifications
- Commitment to the VLR mission to provide services, skills and support for people with vision loss.
- Ability to work in multi-cultural setting including hard-of-hearing, deaf, visually-impaired, blind or deafblind individuals. May also work with clients who are recent immigrants from other countries.
- Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Services with certification in Rehabilitation Teaching or Orientation and Mobility. Dual certification preferred (or willingness and ability to become certified) as Vision Rehabilitation Therapist through Academy of Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP).
- A minimum of two years teaching success preferred.
- A valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle with required insurance coverage.

- Competency with Microsoft ® Office Suite and using a database (database training provided).
- Ability to work independently and within teams supporting team cohesion and goals.

- Initiative and demonstrated pursuit of continuous improvement.
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
