Academia Cesar Chavez (ACC) is dedicated to providing a quality dual-language education that prepares critically thinking, socially competent, values driven, and culturally aware bilingual and biliterate learners by advocating Latino cultural values in an environment of familia and community.
Academia Cesar Chavez is hiring a School Counselor for the 2021 - 2022 school year. This position exists to provide mental health services for our students and families in a culturally competent manner.
Major Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide culturally appropriate school-based counseling/social work prevention and intervention services to students and their families
- Lead student groups around coping skills and social skills
- Consistently communicate and collaborate with school staff on student mental health needs to improve student success in school
- Work closely with the special education team and support IEP goals for special education students
- Deal with crisis situations in a manner that is consistent with the school’s crisis plan and procedures
- Be an active member of the school’s Child Study Team
- Assess the mental health needs of students identified by staff
- Work cooperatively with the entire staff, parents and students
- Attend meetings and in-service workshops at the request of the Principal
- Maintain confidential records while being in compliance of laws
- Work with county services and community based organizations as needed
- Maintain regular communication with families on students served
Position Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Counseling or related field such as an MSW is preferred
- Must be licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Social Worker licensure preferred, but not required
- Bilingual in both Spanish and English required
- Experience working with Latino families and urban learners
- Understanding and support of the goals and mission of ACC
- Evidence of continuous professional growth in counseling and guidance
- At least two years of experience working in an elementary school environment is preferred
- Experience working with special education students is preferred
