We are currently recruiting for a full time Nutrition Program Supervisor.
Position Purpose:
The Nutrition Program Supervisor is responsible for the effective operating performance and delivery of Academia Cesar Chavez’s overall Child Nutrition Program (CNP). The Nutrition Program Supervisor is responsible and accountable for all data entry, administrative functions and accurate reporting to the Minnesota Department of Education Food Nutrition Service Program. Job functions also include administrating, planning, directing assessing, implementing and evaluation the program in order to meet the nutritional and educational needs of children, as they relate to the CNP. This position also partners with others in the school and community to solicit support for the development of a sound nutrition assistance food program while following federal, state and local guidelines for the ultimate health, comfort, and benefit of the scholars. Work with directors, coaches, educational team and other support staff to ensure ACC’s mission, values, vision and Health and Wellness Policy are supported, modeled, infused throughout the CNP.

Line/Staff Relationship:
- Immediate Supervisor: ACC Family and Community Director
- Work closely with principal, assistant principal, health coach, monitors, catering staff and other support staff
Nature of Work:
Duties will include implementing curriculum that incorporates MN state standards, Latino culture into everyday lessons and activities, creating and maintaining an appropriate classroom physical environment, providing cultural experiences based in Latino cultures, setting up a classroom that is conducive to all learning styles and communicating and engaging parents.
Major Functions and Responsibilities:
General Management and Recordkeeping:
- Collect Free and Reduced-Price School Meals State and Federally Funded Programs for Schools Application for Educational Benefits. Ensures that all student families completed and return application by end of September or upon enrollment. Reviews applications to check for accuracy. Send returned forms to Minnesota Department of Education Food Nutrition Service Program. Ensure that all scholars and staff are provided and use a PIN number.
- Collect daily fees from paying scholars and staff for breakfast and lunch. Record and submit receipt for fees collected to parents. Submit payment records and fees for deposit to Family & Community Director. Keep accurate records of paying students and keeping accounts up to date.
- Enter daily breakfast and lunch counts into JMC and provide follow-up reports to Minnesota Department of Education Food Nutrition Service Program. Submit copy of report to Family & Community Director.
- Implements efficient management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with local, state and federal laws and policies.
Procurement:
- Implements a cost-effective procurement system.
- Develops purchasing guidelines to ensure purchased food and supplies reflect product knowledge, customer preferences, district needs, policies, and nutrition objectives.
- Order breakfast and milk from catering company and distributors, keeping accurate inventory records of all supplies, securing food commodities, stocking shelves with fresh breakfast food supplies and stocking milk according to date. Fills milk boxes and stacks milk crates. See that products are disposed of following expiration date.
- Establishes standards for receiving, storing, and inventorying food and non-food supplies based on sound principles of management.
Program Accountability:
- Ensures CNP compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, regulations and policies.
- Provides technical assistance and training for all school food service personnel, school administrators, lunch monitors and other support staff.
- Must attend all training required by the MN Department of Education.
- Develops guidelines for providing services in response to a disaster or emergency situations.
- Ensures all applications for after school programs and summer school programs are submitted to provide food services during those out of school times.
Environmental Management:
- Set-up, distributes, and enters student breakfast count daily. Sets up and monitors serving line for breakfast and lunch. Ensures adequate supply of paper products and trays for breakfast and lunch. Utilizes all leftovers from breakfast and ensures timely storage of food commodities for future use.
- Maintain cleanliness of serving line between breakfast and lunch. Wipes down tables and trays following meal service. Communicates with custodians when spills need to be cleaned up. Ensures that work area is clean and orderly.
- Must be present for and inventory all food and or milk deliveries; must follow and refer to “Buy American Act” rules and regulations.
- Order bag lunches as required by teaching staff and administrators for field trips and/or funeral days.
- Ensures all scholars and staff are following the food waste and recycling processes.
- Performs other duties as required.
Menus:
- Coordinates and meets with Family & Community Director and catering company to develop a draft school menu for the year. Submits draft menu to supervisor for approval by the Executive Director.
- Works with school staff, health coach, teachers, parents and school nurse to plan menus for children with special nutrition needs.
- Ensures the approved menu is translated into Spanish by Building translator and that menu for upcoming month is sent home with students the last week prior to the new month.
- Displays monthly menu in front office and cafeteria.
Customer Service:
- Working with Family & Community Director, evaluates establishes menus monthly for student satisfaction, production, and practicality
- Follows established variety standards and interjects cultural preferences as needed.
- Files records with the weekly menu served, for historical back-up. Noting favorable menu items.
Communication:
- Meet weekly with the Family & Community Director to provide updates and reports on ACC Food Program.
- Notifying Family & Community Director of parent or staff complaints regarding Food Program and taking appropriate action as required.
- Ensure that all documentation for parents related to Food Service Program is translated in both English and Spanish.
- Responds to both internal and external phone calls regarding food program.
- Collaborates and accommodates needs for ACC Health Coach and other ACC partners who offer cooking classes.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Attend Back to School Night, Annual Board of Directors Meetings, and other events as assigned that require serving meals.
- Be aware of school activities of all types and help accommodate when food or meals are involved.
- Attends all school staff meetings when requested by supervisor.
- Develops a summer schedule with supervisor to ensure all required paperwork and applications are submitted in a timely manner as well as to ensure summer breakfast and lunch program are running smoothly and properly.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a daily basis.
- Able to stand or sit for extended periods up to 3 hours.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Food Service Certified.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Experience with culturally diverse communities
- Strong skills in organization, time management, written and verbal communication and be flexible and detail oriented.
- Fluent in written and verbal English-bilingual abilities preferred (Spanish)
- Proven knowledge and ability in the use of Microsoft Office programs and office equipment.
