The monitor ensures the health, safety, and welfare of students in the school cafeteria and on the playground.
Essential expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions:
- Supervise students to, from, and at the school playground.
- Assist and supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch periods in serving line, while eating, and during cafeteria dismissal.
- Maintains discipline in the cafeteria and on the playground according to school and county policies.
- Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon are reasonably possible.
- Assists cafeteria staff in cleaning up spills, accidents, etc.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Complies with and supports school and the division regulations and policies.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Performs other lunchroom and playground supervisory duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with elementary school age children and other staff members.
- Candidate must possess good moral character.
- Must have the ability to handle complaints and work cooperatively with others to resolve issues that arise.
- Frequent walking, standing, and lifting up to approximately 15 pounds.
- Occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds may be required.
- Other physical activities are required, such as, but not limited to bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Visual acuity is required for monitoring and determining needs of students.
- Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
- Must dress appropriately for weather.
- Must carry a walkie talkie and whistle.
- Must write up student incident reports if child is hurt on the playground.
