Immediate Start.
Position Purpose: To provide an enriching academic and learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to maturity, interests and learning styles of ACC students. Implement a linguistically and culturally appropriate educational program and school. Work with directors, educational team, other staff and parents to ensure ACC’s mission, values, vision, and curriculum objectives are supported, modeled and taught to the students.
Job Requirements: Bilingual/Bi-literate in English and Spanish
2-year college degree or working toward a degree
Experience working with children and adults
Pay: Salary based on years of experience, determined by the salary schedule
Work Hours: 8:30 – 4:30 Monday thru Friday, however participation is required at staff meetings, opening week workshop, professional development, home visits, parent-teacher conferences and family events.
Reports to: Principal of ACC, work cooperatively with Spanish teachers, grade level teams and other EP’s
Primary Responsibility:
- Implement valuable and interesting lessons which are appropriate to the level of Spanish proficiency of the students
- Utilize specialized approaches for delivering understandable curriculum to second language learners in addition to teaching Spanish language development
- Integrate Latino culture and the arts into the curriculum
- Work with the classroom teacher to incorporate social skills instruction to assist students in establishing and maintaining positive classroom and social behavior
- Conduct home visits with classroom teachers as needed in Spanish speaking families, and to help maintain frequent collaboration and communication with those Spanish speaking families or guardians
- Work effectively as a team with educational and administrative staff, including school partners and social service providers, to develop a linguistically and culturally appropriate school
- Work with the administration in implementing all ACC school policies and rules
- In the classroom, implement consistent rules of classroom behavior and procedures; set strong boundaries and high expectations of student behavior along with maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner that incorporates ACC values
- Participate actively in weekly staff meetings and serve on various school committees
- Commit to on-going professional development
- Be able to work evening hours to conduct home visits, support parent-teacher conferences, and assist in school events
- Able to assume various responsibilities and assignments, which may arise out of school needs
- Participate in non-teaching extracurricular activities associated with the school
