The Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault was founded in 1982. Our mission is to provide leadership and resources for sexual assault programs and allies to prevent sexual violence while promoting a comprehensive, socially just response for all victims/survivors. MNCASA provides training and technical assistance to member advocacy programs across the state; supports multidisciplinary teams working to ensure a victim-centered response to incidents of sexual violence through the Sexual Violence Justice Institute; leads the state in strategic work regarding primary prevention of sexual violence and child sexual abuse; and works to ensure that public policy reflects the needs of victims/survivors and the systems which are charged with providing safety, accountability, and sustainable change.
Position Description
This is a full-time position with responsibility for maintaining the mission of the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault and the Sexual Violence Justice Institute by developing training, expanding resources and developing legal arguments to assist prosecutors, law enforcement, advocates, medical personnel and social service providers as they work to improve the system and community response to incidents of sexual violence. This position is also responsible for the development and implementation of MNCASA's public policy agenda with the goals of preventing sexual violence, adequately funding advocacy services and improving access to justice for victims/survivors.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical assistance to MNCASA member programs, SVJI SMART teams, prosecutors and other partners to support best legal practices in response to sexual assault cases.
* Develop trainings regarding best practices in the legal response to incidents of sexual violence and collaborate to provide training with different disciplines.
* Develop resources including fact sheets, manuals and other resource materials relative to best legal practices in response to sexual assault cases.
* Develop critical legal arguments (i.e. amicus briefs, memoranda, voir dire questions, expert testimony resources, law review articles, etc.) for use by Minnesota jurisdictions in their response to sexual assault.
* Represent MNCASA to local, state and national entities, task forces, working groups and other related activities.
* Coordinate development and implementation of public policy agenda with MNCASA public policy committee, subcommittees and lobbyists. Communicate and advocate for agenda to MNCASA constituents as well as local, state and federal lawmakers and the general public.
* Serve as Staff Attorney
* Supervise legal interns.
* Provide input to general MNCASA activities including but not limited to annual meeting, training symposium and organizational communications.
* Supervision of and/or participation in special projects as appropriate, including the Statewide Medical Forensic Policy Program Coordinator and Trafficking Policy Coordinator.
* Maintain resource materials and respond to inquiries as needed.
* Maintain listservs for communications between professionals.
* Maintain relevant pages and resources on MNCASA website.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* At least 3 years experience as a practicing attorney or related experience.
* Juris Doctor and knowledge of current state of sexual assault law in Minnesota required. Experience as a prosecutor desired. Minnesota licensure required, or if licensed in another state, willingness to obtain Minnesota licensure.
* Ability to work well with internal and external customers.
* Strong written and verbal skills.
* Demonstrated experience as a supervisor.
* Demonstrated experience working with collaborative groups.
* Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities.
* Demonstrated commitment to eradicating sexual violence and knowledge of its root causes including sexism, racism, heterosexism, classism, ableism and other systems of oppression.
* Support for and adherence to MNCASA's mission and philosophy statement.
* Completion of 40-hour sexual assault advocate training either prior to hire or as soon after as possible.
* Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and legal research programs.
* Ability to work flexible hours.

Salary $60,000 to $73,200, commensurate with successful experience
