About The Open Door: The Open Door is a dynamic hunger relief organization providing fresh and healthy food to more than 15,000 individuals each month through a variety of innovative programs. Founded in 2009, The Open Door has quickly grown to become one of the top 5 food shelves in Minnesota, and our focus on providing healthy food and a dignified experience has helped changed the food shelf landscape across Minnesota. With the largest Mobile Food program in the region, and a vibrant Garden to Table program helping community members grow their own food in 13 gardens across Dakota County, our volunteers and staff get more food to more people than any organization in Dakota County.
A recently completed Capital Campaign has provided a brand-new space in Eagan that gives our team the space, technology, and infrastructure necessary to become an even more effective and impactful organization. Our team has found ways to triple its capacity serve over the past 3 years, and we are looking for someone to help us generate the support needed to continue growing until we get food to everyone in our community that needs it.
Our work is powered by more than 1,200 volunteers each year and supported by a growing and generous community of donors who make our work possible.
We are seeking a dynamic individual to lead our team of fundraising and communications professionals as we find ways to engage our community in ways that generate and retain support to ensure everyone in our community that needs food has the access they need.

Compensation and Benefits
The Open Door offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:
- Full time salary of $65,000 - $70,000 depending upon qualifications
- Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Agreement (ICHRA)
- Retirement Plan with 3% Match
- Life, short-term and long-term disability
- 10 paid holidays
- PTO starting at 20 days per year
Summary of Job Description:
The Director is an integral part of the leadership team and a dedicated development team member consisting of the Executive Director, Development and Communications team, volunteer-based Development, Communications, and Events Committees. The team is charged with raising funds for, and awareness of, a dynamic hunger relief organization committed to ending hunger through access to healthy food. The position directly supervises development and communications staff.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Resource Development
- Provides strategic leadership, creating and executing fundraising strategies to raise annual budget; works to grow additional avenues of revenue.
- Primary member of the development team influencing and driving strategy, relationships and best practices to accomplish financial goals.
- Develops and oversees all agency revenue streams, including managing grants calendar and working with Communications & Grants Manager on drafting and submission.
- Maintains donor database system for grants, contracts, individual donors and events.
- Implement and create stewardship initiatives and events
- Community Engagement
- Create and implement a comprehensive advancement strategy for developing and sustaining key external partnerships to enhance community awareness and financial support in the communities served.
- Represent The Open Door and its programs in the communities the organization serves.
- Keep apprised of and engaged in advocacy/legislative issues relevant to The Open Door.
- Marketing, Communications and Brand Management
- Supervise Communications and Events Coordinator and all external campaigns, events and marketing communications efforts, including social media.
- Ensure a strong brand internally and externally.
- Ensure that materials communicate a consistent message throughout all programs.
- Work with print, graphics, video, and social media content.
- Board and Committee Support
- Schedule and attend Development Committee meetings, supporting the chair in leadership efforts.
- Prepare documents and reports for Development Committee meetings.
- Support the Executive Director in management of development budget and expense tracking expenses.
- Support other development department projects as requested.
- Leadership
- Serve as an advisor and co-strategist to the Executive Director, providing sound counsel and confidentiality.
- Represent The Open Door internally/externally when Executive Director is unavailable.
- Ensure programs and internal culture, policies, and practices align with the organization’s mission, vision and values.
- Manages, hires, evaluates, develops and mentors a team of talented professionals and consultants.

Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred and/or 5 + years development or communications success
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, as well as with donor databases such as Nonprofit Easy, Raiser’s Edge, or e-Tapestry
- Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills
- Comfort with public speaking and the ability to speak clearly and persuasively
- The ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced team environment, while simultaneously managing a large number of projects
- Ability to honor private and confidential information
- Working some nights and weekends required.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
