Academia Cesar Chavez (ACC) is a public, Pre-K through 8th grade charter school, founded in 2000 in St. Paul, MN. ACC is a community-based school offering a bilingual program tailored to meet the needs of individual students, readily accessible to families and equipped with the curricular and instructional tools necessary to ensure that students can achieve high standards. The school adopts an educational program that supports the goal of students becoming bilingual and biliterate and best practices. ACC serves a significant Emergent Bilingual students and Latino population and uses highly effective instructional strategies. POSITION PURPOSE
This position will perform professional work providing broad range of teaching and direct instructional services or specific learning programs, assist scholars to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning in accordance with each scholars’ ability, and use a variety of teaching and learning methods at various levels to a targeted audience, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work with directors, educational team, other staff and parents to ensure ACC’s mission, values, vision, and curriculum objectives are supported, modeled and taught to the scholars.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Hold a valid Minnesota Special Education Teacher’s License or able to obtain
- Up to date knowledge of current due process
- Knowledgeable of instructional best practices working with Multilingual Learners
- Knowledgeable of assessments and how to analyze data to improve student performance and growth
- Excellent interpersonal and human relation skills
- Culturally-responsive, able to work on a team and independently
- Functionally and technically competent in skills necessary for this position
- Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English preferred
- Must be able to travel for appropriate conferences and meetings
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess scholar progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques
- Develops and support implementation annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for scholars
- Maintain compliance of a case load of 10 to 18 scholars ranging in disabilities
- Adheres to procedural requirements, including due process timelines
- Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives and school board
- Attends professional development, training sessions, conferences, seminars, district and departmental meetings
- Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare and safety of all scholars
- Collaborate with colleagues (school wide meetings, professional development days) to continuously improve personal practice, instruction, assessment, and student achievement, as well as the overall goals and mission of the school
- Access meaningful learning experiences (current theory, research, developments in relevant academic disciplines, professional development opportunities, and ideas from colleagues and supervisors)
- Monitors the Special Education department needs or areas of growth; Identify areas for further professional development as part of a professional development plan that is linked to grade level, school, and network goals
- Use the state standards and (General and Special Education) curriculums to create a rigorous, objective-driven program
- Assist Special Education Teacher with differentiation for individual students based on their unique learning needs to ensure all students are appropriately engaged and challenged
- Assist Special Education Teacher with lesson plan highlighting the introduction to learning objectives to activate students’ prior knowledge as it relates to objectives, and conclude the lesson by revisiting the learning objective
- Develop standards-aligned, measurable, ambitious goals that will increase student opportunities for achievement; assess and track performance against these goals
- Performs other duties and responsibilities that are delegated by the Head of School and Executive Director
