Description
Position Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to ensure that Academia Cesar Chavez provides a safe, well- structured, positive and orderly environment for all ACC students. This position is responsible for maintaining school culture that supports students in reaching high academic achievement and social expectations. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing procedures and programs to promote ACC’s values.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Behavior
- Reinforce and celebrate good student behavior
- Work with staff, students, and families to promote a positive school culture and climate which exists through an appropriate, effective education program
- Work with staff to ensure there are programs to promote respectful behavior among students
- Work with school Behavioral Specialist to provide leadership for the development and implementation of student/personnel procedures that are designed to meet student’s needs
- Set clear age-appropriate expectations and consequences for student behavior
- Ensure that a system is in place to assist staff and advise them in resolving disciplinary problems and bring information to the Behavioral Prevention Specialist to address student behavior incidents
- Support teachers and staff with student behavior issues and provide feedback
- Keep record of behavior referrals, communicate with teacher and Behavioral Prevention Specialist
- Mediate student disputes
- Provide discipline to students while treating them with love, respect and dignity, and work with them so they can learn how to change their behavior and new skills to demonstrate acceptable behavior
- Conduct small social groups
- Attend Child Study and Building Leadership Team meetings as needed
- Participate in Crisis Team meetings and trainings
- Assist in daily arrival and dismissal time for students
- Assist with bus reports and provide accurate information to Behavioral Prevention Specialist
Other:
- Provide daily reports as requested by Behavioral Prevention Specialist
- Provide input to school policies (example: Family Handbook, Bullying Policy) as needed
- Other duties as requested
Minimum Qualification:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Excellent oral and written skills in English and Spanish required
- Experience working with elementary and middle school age students as well as knowledge of developmentally-appropriate teaching strategies and management strategies
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Ability to think and act quickly, creatively and strategically
- Possess a strong commitment to youth leadership and empowerment
- Ability to work sensitively, calmly and effectively with young people
- Ability to connect with and listen to others, including parents, students, colleagues and administration
- Willingness and ability to engage in honest, reflective dialogue and to approach conflict and criticism in an appropriate, professional and direct manner
- Willingness and ability to model oneself as a continuous leader to students, parents, peers and supervisors
- Ability to draw upon data to drive practices
- Open to engage in ongoing professional development in the area of student discipline
- Commitment to ACC’s Mission and to student success and that all students can succeed no exceptions
- Ability to adapt to the changing needs and requirements of working in a charter school
